Legislative Session Updates

Update on SB 162: SB 162, the Louisiana Incentives and Workforce Housing Act, failed to make it out of House Commerce Committee last Tuesday, May 31. After much intense debate, we fell short by one vote. This means the bill will not advance any further during this legislative session. A call for action went out before the Memorial Day weekend to all REALTORS® across the state, and only 3% of members took action. NOMAR urges all members to take action quickly when a Call for Action is put out by NOMAR, LR, or NAR. Please make sure you are signed up to receive calls for action by texting REALTORS to 30644 or by signing up online here .

Special Session Begins This Week: The 2017 regular legislative session will adjourn this Thursday, June 8. Immediately following adjournment the legislature will reconvene for its second special session this year. The focus of this session will be on the state budget and avoiding the fiscal cliff. NOMAR will continue to post relevant information throughout the special session here and on our website.

If you have any questions about the regular or special session, please contact NOMAR Governmental Affairs.

Professionalism at all times

By following unspoken rules of real estate, you can help your deals move along with much more grace. If you would like to submit an unspoken rule that you feel would be helpful to share, please send it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Leave it the way you found it. "After showings turn off the lights, shut and lock the doors and return the key to the lockbox. Sounds so simple but many times I have to read my lockbox to see who was last agent in the house who did not leave it the way that they found it.

If an agent tries to deny it was them, the proof is in your lockbox! -Trinity Keller, NOLA Living Realty

Keep your MLS status up to date. "Don't have your MLS listing show as 'active' when you have an accepted offer on a property. Not only is it against the MLS Rules, it is time-consuming to talk to the buyer about the property, handle their excitement, and finally track down the listing agent only to hear, 'It is under contract". This is very inconsiderate of a listing agent and diminishes our credibility with our buyers." - Josie DeGrusha, RE/MAX Affiliates
